Aroostook County

North of Houlton Aroostook County has several small peaks to climb overlooking farmland along the Canadian border. The region becomes more mountainous and remote as you travel across the northern tip of the state towards the Quebec border.

Take a walk on the beach at Old Orchard Beach or explore several coastal estuary nature reserves such as the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge.

Downeast and Acadia

This region includes Acadia National Park, one of the most visited national parks in the United States. The region stretches north along the coast and ends along the Canadian border where you will find the Moosehorn Wildlife Refuge.

Highlands

Mount Katahdin in Baxter State Park is the highest peak in the state. Any of the peaks on the park provide opportunities for amazing adventures. The region extends south to include the city of Bangor.

This region begins in and around Augusta and extends north to the Bigelow Mountain preserve. The region continues to extend north all the way to the Canadian border in Quebec.

This region includes many trails along the jagged coastal shoreline. Camden Hills State Park is the morst prominent due to the peak that overlooks West Penobscot Bay.

The Mountain and Lakes region runs along the Newhampshire border and includes some of the most mountainous areas in the state. It includes Grafton Notch and Mount Blue State Parks.
